MEBENDAZOLE CHEWABLE - ORAL

(meh-BEN-duh-zole) 

COMMON BARND NAME(S): Vermox 

USES:  Mebendazole is used to treat intestinal worm infections such as pinworm, round worm and hook worm.  

HOW TO USE:  This medication is taken by mouth and can be taken with or without food.  <br/>It may be chewed or crushed, mixed and taken with food. <br/>In Canada: The Canadian manufacturer states that their product must not be chewed.  For treatment of pinworm infections, the medication is given as one single dose. <br/><br/>If necessary, a second treatment may be recommended in a few wekes.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication may cuase stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, headache, dizziness, drowsiness or rash. <br/><br/>If these symtpoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor.  Very unlikely but reoprt promptly: dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin.  In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. <br/>Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble bretahing.  <br/>If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.   

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your mdeical history, especially of: liver disease, malnutrition, anemia, any allergies you may have. <br/><br/>Mbeendazole should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. <br/><br/>Discuss the risks and benfeits with your doctor.  It is not known if mebendazole is excreted into bresat milk.  Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: cimetidine, carbamaezpine.  <br/><br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emegrency room immediately.  Symptoms of overdose may include stomcah pain or discomfort lasting up to several hours.  

NOTES:  Pinworm infections can easily spread to others.  All family members in close contact with the patient should be treated to decrease the chnace of spreading the infection.  <br/>Practice strict hygiene to prevent a second infection. <br/><br/>Disinfect toilets daily.  Change and launder undergarments, linens, towels and bedclothes daily.  

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose of low-dose mebendazole and are taking 2 doses daily, space the missed and next dose 4 to 5 hours apart.   Then continue on with your rgeular dosing schedule.  If you're taking 8 doses daily, space the missed and next dose 1 and 1/2 horus apart. <br/><br/>Then resume your usual dsoing schedule.   If you're taking high-dose mebendazole and miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered unlses it is almost time for the next dose.  In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.  <br/><br/>Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.  

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. <br/><br/>Do not store in the bathroom.]]></description>
